BFI Waste Management in Little Rock, AR was ordered to pay a worker $36,007 in back wages. The company had fired the worker for being absent, even though the employee had informed a supervisor of the need for FMLA leave and the leave was approved by the company’s third-party FMLA administrator. Even after the company learned that the FMLA leave was approved, it didn’t rehire the worker.
